April 13, 2026April 13, 2026 Uncategorized Thank you to the Climate Action Unit, KCC for the free training courseson ‘Nearly Zero Energy Building’s (NZEB), which were delivered in the NZEB Mobile Training Rig from Mount Lucas, The National Construction Training Campus, Co Offaly. The giant rig was parked at the Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre, from 31 March to 2 April. The programme provided participants with a practical introduction to the principles of Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB), aligned with Irish Building Regulations and national climate and housing policy. Participants on the full day course Zero Energy Building (NZEB) Design course received a City & Guilds Assured Certificate (Approved by the Construction Industry Federation). This training qualified for CPD for Engineers Ireland members. A further half day course was aimed at those interested in a home retrofit. – NZEB Principles & Regulations: Overview of Technical Guidance Document Part L and Part F and their implications for building design and construction. – Building Physics: Heat transfer, heat loss, U-values, condensation, mould risk and the importance of ventilation. – Building Fabric Performance: Continuous insulation, airtightness, minimising thermal bridging, and the role of windows and doors. – Building Services: Space and water heating systems, ventilation strategies, lighting, controls and smart technologies. – Renewable Energy: Integration of photovoltaics, smart metering and meeting renewable energy targets. – Communication & User Information: Best practice communication during construction and at handover stage Some KSEC members were delighted to attend.
