A special welcome to KSEC’s new treasurer, Tadgh Quill-Manley, who was recruited via Boardmatch and joined us in January. Céad míle fáilte Tadgh!

A Few Items of News!

  • Community Climate Adaptation Programme

Storm Chandra, our 3rd storm of the winter, has left much devastation, and it’s a stark reminder of our ongoing need to act to mitigate climate change. However, we also now need to adapt to the changes in climate that are with us.

Are you interested in a training programme to help develop leaders in local communities to adapt to these changes? If so, the NEWKD-Transition Kerry Programme may be for you.

To find out more, contact adaptationkerry@transitionkerry.org // www.adaptationkerry.transitionkerry.org

  • SE Systems

KSEC has applied to SE Systems for a Community Energy Grant. If successful, KSEC would receive €10,000 finance for a solar installation on a nominated community building.

  • Field Trip

It is hoped to organise a field trip for members in the near future.

Well done to Brighter Kerry on the following development:

“I am pleased to advise that we have recently been offered *SRESS 1 support for our Kilcummin Community Solar Farm by the Minister for Climate, Energy and Environment and we have accepted the offer. This scheme guarantees income of €140 per MWh for 15 years”.

, Kerry Renewable Energy Community

Stephen O’Sullivan, Secretary, Kerry Renewable Energy Community
*Note: SRESS=Small -Scale Renewable Electricity Support Scheme.

  • Thank you to Kevin O’Farrell

Kevin O Farrell stepped down as chairperson and acting treasurer in September. The Board of KSEC has thanked Kevin for taking on the role of chairperson last April and later that of acting treasurer. Kevin steered KSEC with both expertise and good humour in both roles. His work included linking with the Friendly Societies, the auditor and chairing the meetings. He was part of the review of KSEC’s Energy Master Plan and the drawing up of its summary leaflet and the ‘looking back and forward’ process, or meitheal and more.

We wish Kevin well for the future.

  • New Windows and doors grant (SEAI) and webinar

Application opens on Monday, 2nd March 2026. Read more

An upcoming webinar will give an overview of this new SEAI grant.

In addition, Wexford Town SEC will be speaking about their excellent work in securing an Energy Champion within their local area.  This approach is one that would be easily replicated in other communities, including our own Kerry SECs, and might prove inspirational to KSEC.

  • KSEC AGM is due again in April(Further details later)

Hoping many of you will attend. Maybe you might like to volunteer some time and join the board?
