Public Meeting in CYMS 21 Oct.’25.

KSEC was delighted to host this public meeting to explore the setting up a ‘solar meitheal’ in Killorglin. As a ‘solar meitheal’ usually works best in housing estates, around eight estates in Killorglin were leafleted prior to the meeting.
After an initial welcome by Sylvia Thompson, KSEC secretary, who outlined the context ie the original Killorglin Energy Master Plan( EMP, 2020 -2023) and Register or list of Opportunities or actions, she introduced the main speaker, Deirdre de Bhailís, SEC Mentor, working with KSEC and manager of the Dingle Hub.
Deirdre’s presentation included an explanation of Solar PV, aspects to consider re its suitability and then the steps towards running a ‘Solar Meitheal’.
There was good engagement from those present and indeed offers of help. Next steps will be for the linking up of these who offered help with someone with good experience, in fact a manager, of running some meitheals in some Cork estates.
So watch this space for developments.
Thanks were expressed to the CYMS for hosting the event, to CARA Credit Union for sponsoring the printing of the EMP summary leaflet and to Breda of Cara Credit Union who gave a short and helpful input on the green loans etc available. Finally details were given of an upcoming ‘Home Energy Upgrade Event’ on Wed 5th Nov, 5-9pm , The Devon Inn, Templeglantine.
